Summer Reading is Awesome!

Recently, I joined Susan Mueller and volunteers at the Herington Public Library for stories, crafts, and wonderful snacks.  The younger children made bat masks and everyone had an opportunity to frost a homemade bat cookie.  Chocolate milk and gummi worms rounded out this yummy treat.  If I counted correctly, there were over 60 children for the morning activities.  Susan did an excellent job of introducing the word, “nocturnal” to the children.  Hearing new or unfamiliar words increasing a child’s vocabulary.  Providing them with rich language experiences paves the way for reading readiness.
